On the reverse a label inscribed in old handwriting attributing this picture to Gerbrand van den Eeckhout.
We are grateful to Dr Werner Telesko, Vienna, for suggesting the rarely depicted subject of Hannah.
Dr Ulrich Becker, Graz, whom we also thank for his collaboration, believes that the painting may possibly depict the “Birth of Isaak”.
Dietricy, with whose circle this picture can be associated, repeatedly depicted scenes from the Old Testament, following the models offered by Rembrandt and his pupils, especially Gerbrand van den Eeckhout.
